The Food and Drug Administration is warning consumers and physicians about a potentially dangerous drug that could be deadly to some people who take Viagra.
The drug, which also has a similar name, is designed to treat the symptoms of impotence and erectile dysfunction. It is not a cure, but it can help reduce blood pressure and may improve the ability to get and keep an erection.
“This is a serious problem, and the FDA must be held to the same standards as other medications,” said the FDA’s director of drug safety, Dr. Diana R. bioethics. “Viagra is one of the most dangerous medicines on the market today.”
Some people who take Viagra for sexual dysfunction may not like how it’s marketed. The drug has been linked to the death of a man in Florida who has been taking the drug for about four months for a heart condition.
The FDA’s warning is based on data that shows the drug can increase blood flow to the penis and cause impotence. Doctors prescribe Viagra in the U. S., but it can be taken in other countries. Some doctors prescribe it to treat a certain type of sexual disorder, such as erectile dysfunction.
“Viagra has been a lifesaver for millions of men worldwide,” said Dr. bioethics, director of the National Center for Health Research. “We can now offer a safe, effective, and long-lasting solution to help men and their partners get and keep a strong, satisfying erection.”
A study published in the March 2017 issue of theJournal of Sexual Medicinereported that Viagra can cause serious side effects in some people. The side effects included headaches, dizziness, nausea, and diarrhea.
The FDA also recommends that people take Viagra at least six hours before or after sex, for erectile dysfunction.
Viagra can increase blood flow to the penis to help men with ED get and keep an erection.
There are two types of Viagra: sildenafil (the generic name is sildenafil) and tadalafil (the brand name is Cialis).
Sildenafil is a stronger version of Viagra that also contains the active ingredient sildenafil citrate.
Tadalafil is another formulation that is sold under the brand name Cialis.
Both sildenafil and tadalafil have similar side effects, but patients should always talk to their doctor before they start taking any new medication.
Sildenafil may not be as effective if you have heart disease, high blood pressure, high cholesterol, or certain cancers. Tadalafil, the brand name for Cialis, has been linked to a higher risk of bladder cancer, but the FDA hasn’t approved that drug.
Tadalafil has also been linked to a higher risk of bleeding.
Both sildenafil and tadalafil have been linked to increased blood flow to the penis, causing it to expand when the body absorbs it. The FDA hasn’t approved tadalafil or sildenafil.
The FDA says that sildenafil may increase the risk of serious heart problems, stroke, blood clots, high blood pressure, low blood pressure, or other serious problems, and tadalafil may increase the risk of blood clots, which can be serious or life threatening.
Viagra, which has been on the market for more than 20 years, is not approved for use by women, children, or people who are pregnant or breastfeeding.
